The
Fall Drumming Session consists of 8 weekly group lessons
and costs $120 (HST included). Each lesson lasts 1.5 hours; that's
12 hours of class time per session.
Bring your own drum or rent one from the instructor for $15 for
all 8 classes. (Rental drums are available for classes and not to
be taken home.)
•-African/Level One (djembé
& dunun)
This is an introduction to djembé playing. These lessons
teach basic rhythms and sound production on the drum. The cultural
context of the rhythms is briefly talk about. This level lays the
foundation for higher levels. Half way through the course dunun
playing is introduced. Dununs are african bass drums. No previous
experience is required.
•-•-African/Level Two (djembé
& dunun)
New djembé and dunun rhythms are taught. The curriculum changes
every eight weeks; therefore, this level can be repeated several
times. Permission from the instructor is needed before enrolling.

Three (djembé & dunun)
The rhythms that are taught are more challanging than in level two
and taught at a faster pace. Djembé soloing phrases are introduced.

Four (djembé & dunun)
This is an advanced class for students of with a strong background
in djembé and dunun. Permission from the instructor is needed
before enrolling!
•-Latin/Level One
(conga)
This is an introduction to conga drumming. These lessons teach basic
rhythms and sound production on the drum. Clavé and bell
patterns are also taught. No previous experience is required.
•-•-Latin/Level
Two (conga)
This is for people who have taken conga classes with Russell before
or for players with genuine* experience in traditional afro cuban
conga drumming, clavé and bell patterns.
*You've been taught the difference between rumba and son clavé
and are framiliar with heel-toe hand movement (stuff like that).
